Just like starting over…

Mediocre tips, bad advice, fuzzy photos and ideas I’ll put in your head that will cause trouble with your wife.

I started this blog about year or two ago looking to communicate my feelings and experiences as a collector of traffic lights. I had also jumpstarted a venture to finance my hobby in which I would resell surplus parts and signals.

Now, I have just enough tech knowledge to be akin to a man in lead sneakers sinking in quicksand. Of course this has not stopped me from setting foot in the center of the morass.

“CUE THE INSPIRATIONAL THEME MUSIC”

I had crafted a wonderful home page detailing a very specific account with a customer, my adventure that day under a Brooklyn El capturing the mood and spirit of the neighborhood.

Cars play tag from one red light to the next through the dappled sunlight under the El.

It was prose, it was epic, it was a bunch of words strung together to make easily readable sentences. And yet my fingers and keyboard became a wrecking ball through the homepage of this blog. It only took a couple of keystrokes to inadvertently delete it while I was attempting to update the format (when they say once it’s on the internet, it’s there forever, they exaggerate.)

So here I am, starting over. Contemplating the myriad number of times I’ve stood on a sidewalk or a patch of grass, 3 feet from the street, taking pictures for my eclectic hobby.

So…you have a traffic light to sell.

It is probably not worth what you think it is and it is important to note, there is no traffic signal bluebook by which value would be assigned so any appraisal would be subjective. So now you’re listing it and the big question is; How? Chances are, unless you’ve worked in the industry, to you…

Postcards from the edge

The American postcard. Twitter 100 years before Twitter. Some guy sitting at a laptop A lifetime ago I began in collecting signals in earnest. If I was sharp and cruised the local antique places, I would pluck a gem from the wreckage of hoarding. If I surfed the web frequently I could score a bargain…

When you think you have an idea where something’s going to go, you’ll often find it’s never where you’d want it to be.
